Fergal McEntee

Technical Director

Fergal is a surveyor with over 15 years’ experience in the field and serves as a renewable energy specialist with access to a diverse range of skills. He is extremely passionate and enthusiastic about sustainability and environmental matters. Initially involved with voluntary work in the green sector, Fergal’s interest in renewable energy soon evolved and he set about the task of transferring his technical surveying skills to the renewable sector. He has recently obtained his MSc in Renewable Energy and the Built Environment at the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) and in March 2011, he qualified as a Solarteur/Renewable Energy Specialist. Amongst the first pioneering Green Liaison Officers (GLO) in Islington council, Fergal was instrumental in the rolling out of the successful ‘Switch It Off’ energy campaign, which helped introduce recycling and many more effective environmental measures to the borough. In his Funky spare time, Fergal is a keen photographer, sportsman and bizarrely keeps tropical fish!

Dirk Bischof

Director

Dirk has been involved in the renewable energy sector since 2007. He is a fully trained metal engineer and after 3 and a half years of training, he completed his BSc and Master’s degree. In recent years, Dirk has been focusing his attention on developing and running large-scale renewable energy projects, funded mostly by the European Commission (please see our consultancy section for more details). Through his network of projects and partners across the UK and the EU, Dirk has helped to keep Funky Renewables a step ahead in the field and at the cutting edge of renewable development. In November 2013, Dirk was inaugurated as one of the new ‘London Leaders’ to champion a greener and fairer London, a programme which is run by the London Sustainable Development Commission and supported by the Mayor of London. When Dirk is not fiddling with his home PV system, he likes to cycle. He has spent 6 weeks on his bike touring Japan and has completed the journey from Land’s End to John O'Groats in only 10 days. Read here for more of Dirk’s adventures...

Graham Ancient

Director

Graham has over 45 years’ experience in building services, from consultancy work to skilled on-site labouring. He has taught on matters of building services and renewable energy for the past 12 years, is an active member of CIBSE, IGEM, IDHEE, IFL, GTA and is Engineering Council registered. As part of the European educational projects, his main passion lies in teaching. Graham is a person who (rather annoyingly sometimes) seems to know the answer to everything. In his spare time he likes to carry out renewable experiments.

Jake Rendle-Worthington

Renewable Engineer

Jake joined Funky Renewables in 2012 to help with the development and expansion of our Solar PV and consultancy services. He is a renewable energy specialist who has worked on projects both in the UK and in France. Having grown up and worked on an eco-farm, Jake has long been involved with sustainable living and renewable energy projects such as the installation of several wind turbines, solar PV, solar thermal systems and hydro projects. He has further developed this experience by completing an MSc in Renewable Energy at the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT), during which time he performed an in-depth study into wind resource assessment. Since then he has worked for SolarCentury and their charitable partner, SolarAid, helping to bring solar lamps to families in rural Africa, in order to reduce their dependence on expensive and toxic kerosene lamps. A genuine enthusiast for appropriate and feasible renewable technologies and with a remarkable ability to always be able to see the bigger picture, Jake is happiest when he is applying his skills to help his clients find the very best solutions to their problems. Jake is a keen naturalist, dog owner and horse rider – having even written a book on the welfare, handling and teaching of mammals.

Rowan Langley

Electrical Engineer

We met Rowan on one of our EU-funded projects where we trained professionals over in Germany. Rowan has been instrumental in all our Solar PV installations as he is the one who ensures everything is compliant with rules and regulations. He is highly trained and completed various renewable energy training schemes under City & Guilds (2392-20, 17th Edition), and has a BSc Hons in Applied Physics (University of Durham). Rowan is registered with the Competent Persons' scheme operated by the National Association of Professional Inspectors and Testers (NAPIT), where he has also achieved “Full Scope Electrical Safety And Testing” Accreditations.

Michael Hajilou

Sales & Marketing Director

Michael joined Funky Renewables in 2013 as the Sales & Marketing Director and has played a key role in the creation of the Renewables for Schools initiative and the continued development of strategic partnerships. As an area sales manager for a multinational private equity company within the south east region of England, and with over 14 years of sales and management experience, Michael has a strong track record of bringing ideas to market. In recent years he has built his career in creative and editorial production, spearheading foreign direct investment and MICE campaigns with governmental agencies from Sweden, Germany, Croatia, Eastern Europe and with organisations in the environmental and educational sectors, including Stanford Graduate School of Business in the USA. An avid sportsman and a staunch environmentalist, Michael is involved in a variety of non-profit activities primarily focused on education and the environment, and he can often be found with a cup of green tea talking in great detail about the global need to adopt a 100% renewable energy mix.

Sansao Rodrigues

Finance

Sansao has an honours degree in banking and is IAB accredited. Prior to forming his own accountancy practice, Sansao's experience has been spread over several industries: he worked for Whitbread as a manager, Hill Davenport as an international sales executive, Ludlow Thompson as a senior negotiator, Barclays Bank as a personal banker, St Mary's Accounting as a bookkeeper and since February 2012 he has been the managing director of SJPR Accountants. Always reliable and professional, Sansao is the chief bookkeeper of Funky Renewables.

Our Installers

Without them, we are nothing. Which is why Funky Renewables takes pride in making sure that all of the installers are trained to the highest standards, so that we can deliver quality installations, every time. We have a large team, many of whom we have personally trained over the past few years, whilst others we have recruited through our professional network, whenever we have come across truly exceptional installers who we believe meet the Funky standard. Our electrical installers are all NVQ Level 2/3 qualified, meeting the BS7671 Requirements for Electrical Installation (IET 17th Edition Wiring Regulations), and have gained qualifications in installing Solar systems (most will have City & Guilds 2399, whilst others have completed LOGIC, BPEC, NICEIC Renewable Energy Installer courses).
